Finally we have celebrated the 24th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine. The holiday was both bright and sad, especially when the participants of ATO(1) were rewarded posthumously. It made me feel pain and sadness. The President said a few words about the victory and that everything would be changed and the life would become better. It`s a standard speech.
When I was going along the Andriyivskyy Descent (2), I was thinking: “Are we really independent? Is it really. that over 24 years we have been living in illusions of a free and prosperous country?”. I think, that Mr. Putin (3) has proved, that we don’t have a real independence.
During a lot of centuries we have been fighting for our independence, shedding our blood, dying and arising back. In 1991 Ukraine announced its Independence once again and that was it, nothing except for a declaration. The Ukrainians thought that the main goal was achieved and we would live happily and freely. We were wrong. The real problem is not in the document, it is more about minds and souls of people.
Did the inhabitants of the Crimea, who were calling for V. Putin prove that Ukraine was independent or did Donetsk and Lugansk cities prove their devotion to the country by betraying and separating?
And now I`m speaking about the “vata” (3), who have stayed in the DNR/LNR(4) and are happy with Putin and his followers. Only those, who have gone to defend the boarders of our country, and who are fighting and shedding their blood now for the Independence of our country are really devoted. But it isn’t enough. Only when every Ukrainian citizen realizes, that he is a patriot, and never allows to hurt his country, then we will really become independent.
Yesterday`s holiday is a tribute to soldiers, who have been fighting for the Independence during all the time. That`s why, we have gone out to the streets and have shown to the whole world that we believe in our Independence and we will fight for it till the end.
Unfortunately, not everyone thinks like this. But we still have time to improve our country.
