Notes of a 24 year-old

During a lot of centuries the Ukrainians have been waiting for the improvements in their country. A lot of governments have been changed, many generations have grown up and even several revolutions have passed. But despite these facts, life hasn't become better, on the contrary. it has become even worse. Humanity is willing to start wars and conflicts everywhere, dividing territories and being obsessed with finding "a cave of treasures". But is it really a true happiness? Will the life really become better if you own a big house and get a sufficient sum of money? Yes, it will become better: you will have an opportunity to buy something you couldn't buy before and one shouldn't think about the place to live in, when the rent has been over. But it is not an indicator of a good life of the Ukrainians.

The life will become better, when the level of salaries and prices becomes maximally balanced; the life will become perfect, when pensioners instead of sitting and doing nothing, will travel all over the world and they will have money for it; the life will become better, when their will appear managers instead of chiefs in Ukraine. We will be fine, when a deputy, after waking up in the morning, will firstly think what to do for a country today and not for his comfort. I'm waiting for the time, when the equality between people will come true, instead of a categorical division: the wealthy and the poor. I want to believe, that the Ukrainians will stop using clichés about their compatriots from other regions, and will start receiving guests in a friendly way.

Ukraine needs a precise plan according to which the country will move in the right economic and social direction. Reforms can't change the country in one day, but they should be direct and clear. Only then it will be easier for the Government to apply them.If you know what you are dealing with, you will understand everything. The era of crisis is approaching nowadays: of a nation, economy, army, infrastructure etc. Russia has clearly demonstrated, that we are prepared neither for a war nor for a peace inside our country. People has been divided into patriots and "vatniks"(1). Is it really, that this bomb has been cherished during 24 years and has exploded only now or the Ukrainians has just being trying not to notice these problems? Now we should rebuild the "right" Ukrainian society: with a patriotic upbringing and a strong internal and external structure. The reform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (2) is only a small part of a difficult way to strong and prosperous Ukraine. One needs to implement changes in the sphere of education, medicine, ecology, culture. Exactly these spheres are the most vulnerable and the smallest amount of financial resources has been given for them from the budget.

The Government states that it has simplified the tax system, has risen the level of salaries and pensions, but it doesn't take into account, that the prices in the shops has risen as well. An unstable exchange rate of a dollar has caused a rise of prices and it will never degrade them back. Certainly, it's all about critique and it can be distributed to all spheres. The main thing is to have a team play. Everything is like in football here: if the players have their own tactics and strategy, and the goalkeeper protects the gates firmly , a match would be won. If we are moving towards Europe, one should make English courses more accessible, cheaper and qualitative. If you shout at a dog, and don`t teach it commands, the dog will remain stupid.

Every year you become wiser and start to look at the same things differently. Earlier everything seemed to be easy: if you didn’t have something, your parents were guilty; but now you understand, if you don’t have something, it is the fault of a system, which is out of order. There is another point of view- it`s your own fault, that you haven’t become wealthy, and don’t own a big house in Miami and so on. But sometimes, when you enter this system of earning money in Ukraine, you face with a severe reality. I was born 24 years ago, when Ukraine became independent and now our freedom is under threat. It seems that I'm independent, but in the reality I depend on material wealth, on the opportunity to work and other conditions, which have been created inside my country. We will see, what comes next...

Author's Note:

1. “Vatnik” is a derogatory social slang neologism in the Ukrainian and Russian languages, used in reference to the individuals with pro-Russian jingoistic views.

2. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is executes state policy for the protection of rights and liberties of citizens, investigates unlawful acts against the interest of society and state, fights crime, provides civil order, ensures civil security, traffic safety, and protects the security and protection of important individuals.
